About The Society for Psychical Research
The SPR was the first organisation established to examine allegedly paranormal phenomena using scientific principles. Our aim is to learn more about events and abilities commonly described as "psychic" or "paranormal" by supporting research, sharing information and encouraging debate. Our members come from all over the world, and represent a variety of academic and professional interests. We welcome active researchers as well as people who simply want to know more about the subject. Through the SPR libraries, which include a comprehensive online library, members can gain access to the full content of SPR's publications from the very first issues to the present day, as well as a number of out-of-print classic books and materials. Access to online collections of other psychical research/parapsychology journals is also available to members at a special discount.
The SPR is a Registered Charity, established in 1882 (see SPR History). It is run by a Council of 18 members elected from the general membership and a varying number of co-opted Council members. The Council elects the President, a position associated with some illustrious historical names. We work through a number of committees responsible for aspects of our activities, which include education and research.
