ntegral and Transpersonal Psychology at the Califo
rnia Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). His ori
ginal career track as a concert violinist shifted
into science after earning a BSEE degree in electr
ical engineering\, magna cum laude and with honour
s in physics\, from the University of Massachusett
s\, Amherst\, and then an MS in electrical enginee
ring and a PhD in psychology from the University o
f Illinois\, Urbana-Champaign. For a decade\, he w
orked on advanced R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories an
d GTE Laboratories. For over three decades\, he ha
s been engaged in research on the frontiers of con
sciousness. Before joining the research staff at I
ONS in 2001\, he held appointments at Princeton Un
iversity\, SRI International\, and other academic
and industrial facilities.
