New President of the SPR

Prof. Caroline Watt was elected as President of the SPR, 5 June, 2025. An entry about Watt is available in the Psi Encyclopedia. Watt was a founding member of the Koestler Parapsychology Unit (KPU), at the University of Edinburgh, in 1985. The first Koestler Professor Robert Morris (1942-2004) supervised her PhD dissertation, The Relationship Between Performance on a Prototype Measure of Perceptual Defence/vigilance and Psi Performance. Watt remained active in parapsychology after receiving her PhD and has conducted research with the perspective of both advocates and counter-advocates (the terms Morris preferred) in mind. Dr Harvey Irwin invited her to become co-author of the fifth edition of the influential An Introduction to Parapsychology, published in 2007. Watt has held the Perrott-Warrick Senior Researcher Fellowship (2010-2014) and conducted research on precognitive dreams. In 2012, she and Dr James Kennedy established the KPU Study Registry. Watt became the second holder of the Koestler Chair of Parapsychology in 2016 and her own book, Parapsychology: a Beginner's Guide, was published the same year.
