SPR Lecture: The Secret Life of Stainton Moses by LESLIE PRICE

Stainton Moses was a famous mental and physical medium who helped found the SPR in 1882 and became an SPR Vice President. He has featured in many books about the history of psychical research, and was given the unusual distinction of a long two-part article in the SPR's Proceedings about his mediumship. Leslie Price will focus on a number of mysteries in the life of Moses, and attempt to explain them.

He was the medium for the famous “ Spirit Teachings” sometimes called the Bible of Spiritualism. He was editor of LIGHT, the oldest psychic journal still in publication and was the first president of what is now the College of Psychic Studies.  By day, he was a schoolmaster who taught English , but in his home circle at night the most remarkable phenomena appeared. Though he exercised a great influence on Myers, the latter ultimately found him to be an unexplained mystery.

This is an anniversary year for Moses who began to investigate mediumship in 1872 and died in 1892.

Leslie Price (right) joined the Society nearly 40 years ago; he has served on the Library Committee and as a member of Council and is currently an Honorary Member.  He is the founder of  Psypioneer journal, and a past editor of The Christian Parapsychologist and of  Theosophical History.
