Dr Andreas Sommer wins a Young Scholar Prize

SPR member, and one-time Council member, Andreas Sommer of the University of Cambridge has won a Young Scholar Prize awarded by the Division of History of Science and Technology of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology.

Ermine L. Algaier IV, Secretary of the William James Society, writes:

'His Ph.D. thesis, "Crossing the Boundaries of Mind and Body. Psychical Research and the Origins of Modern Psychology", is the first reconstruction of William James’s studies in telepathy and mediumship that places them back into the international network of unorthodox thinkers James was an active member of. Based on a wealth of previously unexplored primary sources in English, German and French (including material from over two dozens archives spread over three continents), the Wellcome Trust-funded work forms the basis of a book under contract with Stanford University Press.

'Andreas will receive the award during a ceremony at the 25th International Congress of History of Science and Technology in Rio de Janeiro in July 2017.'
