Fairies in the SPR Journal

Blogger 'Dr Bechcombing' has reprinted a letter, with commentary, from a 1921 issue of the SPR's Journal concerning fairy experiences.

The letter appeared as part of an article by Sir Oliver Lodge, 'Testimony to a Child's Impression of Fairies'.

Dr Beachcombing's blog post is here:

Celia Alleyne was a pseudonym, and she did not write to the SPR as Dr Beachcombing indicates, rather Lodge contacted her after he heard of her experiences through a mutual friend.

The blog post also gives an incorrect date for the article - the correspondence (which comprised two letters from 'Celia Alleyne', a letter from Sir Olver, and supporting statements from friends) was written in 1920, but appeared in the March 1921 issue of the Journal.

A short supplementary note by Lodge deals with the Cottingley fairies, and is clearly sceptical of the photographs.

Sir Oliver's article in JSPR can be found in the SPR's online library, access to which is free to members of the Society.
